Phyllis Marie Gaultney, age 98, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at Walter Reed Convalescent & Rehab Center on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2022. Phyllis was born on March 18, 1924 to the late Archibald and Myrtle Best Stafford in Sacramento, California. After acquiring her education, she went on to become an LPN and worked at Walter Reed Convalescent & Rehab for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, “snooping” through antique shops, and “adventuring” with her friend Rose to go on day trips. She also loved Jimmy Johnson, NASCAR, and football, especially the San Francisco 49ers. She even once showed off her skills with her loom at the State Fair. Phyllis is survived by her children, Robert Gaultney Jr. (Yvette), Judith Schatzel (Thaddeus), Stephen Gaultney (Alice), and Kathryn Riffle; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Services and inurnment will be private. In memory of our mother, because of her love of animals, contributions may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
