Participants sought for York River recreation study group

Participants are sought for focus groups to be held next week in Gloucester Point and West Point. The topic is recreation along the York River, and the study is being conducted by the National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science, a division of NOAA.

Gloucester Point groups will meet Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science campus.

West Point focus groups are set for 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and noon on Thursday, Dec. 14; locations are not yet announced.

“NOAA is developing a survey to better understand recreation along the York River and its surrounding parks, including reasons why people may not visit these places,” a notice stated. The focus groups, the notice said, will help the study ask “the right questions to capture what local residents really care about.”

Those interested in taking part are asked to email noaa.nccos.sstex@noaa.gov.
