Only local primary in 6th Senatorial District

Absentee voting began Friday for the state’s June 11 primary elections. Locally, Mathews County residents will have a Democratic Party primary to choose between incumbent Lynwood Lewis of Accomack and former Northampton County supervisor Willie Randall for the 6th District seat in the Virginia Senate. There are no primary elections scheduled in Gloucester.

Qualified Virginia voters may vote absentee in-person at their local voter registration office or vote absentee by mail. Registered voters must meet one of the 20 eligibility requirements to vote absentee. Those requirements can be found by visiting vote.virginia.gov.

Virginia citizens who wish to vote absentee must be registered to vote, according to the Virginia State Board of Elections. Citizens can register to vote online or by submitting a completed voter registration application to their local voter registration office.
