One injured in Sarah Creek boat collision

One man was critically injured following a boating accident Sunday afternoon near the mouth of Sarah Creek in lower Gloucester County. 

According to Ellen Bollen, deputy commissioner for the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, a 36-foot vessel hit a Carolina Skiff around 1 p.m. that a man and his wife were on. She said the man on the Carolina Skiff sustained critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. His wife was uninjured.

Bollen said there were no injuries aboard the larger vessel.

“We’re still trying to figure out what happened,” Bollen said. “It’s still under investigation.” She did say that alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Bollen would not release the name, age or residence of the victim, citing it as an ongoing investigation. 

She said VMRC responded to the scene along with members of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. ...
