The Northern Neck Sail & Power Squadron, Kilmarnock, will hold a number of educational opportunities for area boaters next month.
The ABC basic boating course will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 18. The fee is $25 and will include use of a Boating Skills Virtual Trainer, Vessel Safety Check, and an on-the-water session on the participant’s boat with a NNSPS instructor, if desired. Participants must attend both sessions to receive a VA Boater Certification Card, which will be issued at the close of the second session. The reduced fee is made possible through a grant from The Henry Sweet Trust.
Engine Maintenance will be held from 6-8 p.m. Jan 14 and meet Tuesdays for nine weeks. The fee is $95. Participants will learn how to troubleshoot problems, handling underway mechanical situations, and make basic repairs.
Two free seminars will be held on Jan. 25: “Sail Trim” will be presented at 10 a.m., followed by “Intro to Navigation” at 1 p.m. Attend one or both of these two-hour sessions to learn the basics about the subjects. These seminars are made possible by a grant from The Cole Charitable Trust.
