Northumberland County fiber artist Barbara Brecher has been invited to participate in the Smithsonian Craft2Wear Show for the fourth time, taking her one-of-a-kind silk and wool wearable art to Washington, D.C., Friday through Sunday, Sept. 25-27, at the Smithsonian Arts & Industries Building on the National Mall. Show times are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Owner of I Felt Fine Design in Lottsburg, Brecher is among more than 80 artists from across the country selected to participate in the juried show, presented by the Smithsonian Women’s Committee. Craft2Wear showcases contemporary American wearable art, including jewelry, clothing and accessories. She will feature her lightweight felted jackets, scarves and wraps. For more than 20 years, Brecher has developed her own approach to wet felting, combining silk, fine merino wool and other fibers to create wearable works of art.
