NELL THRIFT BROTHERS

Nell Thrift Brothers, a native of Gloucester County, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond on Thursday, Oct.14, 2021. Nell, a graduate of the RN program at Johnston-Willis School of Nursing, worked at Johnston-Willis Hospital, as well as Sanders Nursing Home in Gloucester. She and her husband, Lewis, lived in Kilmarnock and she became a member of the Garden Club and former president; longtime member of Berean Baptist Church, served on the Board of Directors and as a deacon. The dedication to her profession was exemplified in everything she did. Her daughter said it best: “She loved animals (dogs and cats), the garden club, and shopping—never met anyone she did not like.” Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Moses W. and Grace South Thrift, and her brother, Robert T. “Bobby” Thrift. She is survived by her husband Lewis W. Brothers, and daughter Jonell B. Robertson and husband C.T. The family will receive friends at her church, Morattico Baptist Church, 924 Morattico Church Road, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482 on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, from 11 a.m. until noon and a celebration of her life will begin at noon. Inurnment will be private. In memory of our loved one, contributions may be made to Morattico Baptist Church, P.O. Box 228, Kilmarnock, Va. 22482 or Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O.
