Nat Geo TV to feature York River shipwreck documentary

The recent discovery of remains of shipwrecks in the York River dating from the Battle of Yorktown will be the topic of an upcoming episode of National Geographic’s “Drain the Oceans” series.

The episode will air at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2 on Nat Geo TV.

In the spring of 2018, a surveying expedition by JRS Explorations, Inc., uncovered targets believed to be British Navy shipwrecks from Lord Cornwallis’s defeat. The documentary crew came from England to film the story of the discovery for this third-season episode of the National Geographic’s popular maritime mystery show.

Village Blacksmith

George Cramer, owner of the Village Blacksmith in Gloucester, will make an appearance on this episode, titled “Drain the American Revolution.”

The episode, filmed last July, required the assistance of a blacksmith, fire and steel to help recreate and give better understanding of this important moment during the American Revolution.
