NANCY JEAN SWEET

Nancy Jean Sweet, 90, of Hallieford, Va., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, to be reunited with her loving family in heaven. Nancy Sweet, or better known as Ma or Gramma (depending on which generation would be addressing her), was well known for her sharp wit, humor, kindness, grace and creativity. A smart and classy woman by any measure, and someone her family (especially her granddaughters) could look up to. Her most favorite pastime was painting. Most notably, Nancy was a distinguished artist and a member of the former Mathews Art Gallery.

She was predeceased by her husband, George E. Sweet; her parents, Herbert Allen Smith and Jean Sanborn Wayman; sisters, Caryl Uhlman, Cynthia Carlson, and a younger brother, Allen Smith, along with her colorful, doting aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by her sons, David, Robert, and Doug Sweet; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Love-Sweet; her three granddaughters, Robyn Sweet, Krista Sweet and Renee Randall; four great-grandchildren, Brandon McKee, Aubrey Nelson, Wyatt Nelson, and Gabriella Randall; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who all will now have to find comfort in their fond memories of her.

Nancy’s family will hold a private memorial celebration with her ashes to be dispersed on Black Water Creek near the old family estate “The Battery” in North, Va.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews, Va., is assisting the family.
