Names released in July 1 boating accident

The names of those involved in a boating accident at the mouth of Sarah Creek in lower Gloucester County earlier this month have been released. Christopher Leigh of Hayes was behind the wheel of a 36-foot vessel that hit a Carolina Skiff, injuring Alan Moore of Gloucester Point, according to Ellen Bollen, deputy commissioner for the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.

Bollen said the accident occurred around 1 p.m. on July 1. She said Moore sustained critical injuries and was taken by ambulance to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News. His wife, who was also aboard the skiff, was uninjured. Bollen had no information on Moore’s current condition.

She said there were no injuries aboard the larger vessel and added that there is still an active and ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident. She said the fact of whether any charges will be filed will be determined once the investigation has concluded.
