MVFD recognizes members in awards ceremony

The Mathews Volunteer Fire Department held an awards ceremony earlier this month to recognize members for their years of service and to honor members who passed away during the year.

In opening remarks at the program, which was held on April 2 in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School, MVFD president Donnie Lewis also recognized the families of the volunteers, saying, “no firefighter could be successful without their family’s support and understanding.” On top of the hours spent training and the calls to respond at all hours of the day and night, he said that volunteers also have meetings to attend and a department to run.Lewis gave a brief over...
