Morgan recalls origins of Friends of Dragon Run

Although former Virginia Delegate Harvey Morgan said he gets recognition for helping found Friends of the Dragon Run, he told the approximately 50 people at the Friends’ annual meeting that it was actually his brother, the late Jimmy Morgan, who should receive the lion’s share of the credit.

“He was more aggressive and more outgoing than I was,” Morgan said. He recalls meeting with his brother and a few others one night at the old Morgan’s Drug Store in Gloucester to discuss ways to protect the pristine Dragon Run. The group met for six years before becoming incorporated in the summer of 1990.

Dragon Run is spring-fed, its headwater in King and Queen County, according to a brochure distributed at the meeting last Wednesday at the Gloucester Library in Main Street Center.
