Meeting tonight on Village Mixed Use District

Property and business owners in Mathews Court House have been invited to attend a meeting at 6:30 tonight at Mathews Memorial Library to discuss the potential boundaries of the Village Mixed Use Zoning District in downtown Mathews.

Interested residents may attend as well, said planning and zoning director John Shaw.

Last year, the board of supervisors adopted an amendment that added the district to the county’s zoning ordinance, said Shaw in a letter to property owners, but it didn’t adopt a zoning map to identify the boundaries of such a district, which is necessary before one can be established.

Shaw said that the planning commission is looking into the matter and wants to hear the opinions of property owners. He emphasized that no determination has yet been made by the commission to establish the district boundaries, and he created a map highlighting properties that might be included.

The topic will also be discussed at Tuesday’s planning commission...
