Nicole McPherson, 45, has announced her candidacy for the at-large seat of the Gloucester County School Board in the upcoming November election.
Fred Brewer is currently serving in the position on an interim appointment to finish the remainder of Deborah McDonough’s term, which is set to end on Dec. 31 of this year. Brewer will also be vying for the seat in November.
In 2023, McPherson was selected to serve one of the school board’s at-large seats on an interim appointment. “It was an experience that deepened my interest in serving our community in this way,” she stated.
A native of Gloucester, McPherson currently has two children enrolled in Gloucester County Public Schools and has been actively involved in their education and extracurricular activities.
McPherson is a graduate of Longwood University where she studied business and communications. Since graduation, she has worked in the insurance industry investigating, analyzing and negotiating.
Over the past 10 years, McPherson has worked with elementary, middle and high school students through various programs at Petsworth Baptist Church.
If elected to the school board, McPherson said that her goal would be to represent the community and families like hers who want the best possible education for their children. Her focus will always be on student achievement, which she believes always requires a collaborative effort from parents, teachers, staff, administration and students.
“I’m thankful our community is privileged to have incredible teachers, administrators and staff at our schools,” stated McPherson. “With so many other educational options available today, I believe in public school and its value.”
McPherson said she would be honored to serve Gloucester County in this role.
