Mathews supervisors prepare for coming year

Mathews supervisors elected G.C. Morrow to serve as chairman of the board for 2019-2020, with Edwina Casey serving as vice chair. Morrow and Casey were elected to the leadership posts at the board of supervisors’ annual reorganizational meeting last Thursday in the historic courthouse.

Once again, Deputy County Administrator Julie Kaylor was appointed as clerk to the board, with communications manager Caroline Oxley named deputy clerk.

After the election, the board discussed its guiding documents—the code of ethics and the bylaws. 

County Administrator Mindy Conner suggested that the board consider separating the bylaws into two separate documents, since the bylaws contain some items that would be more appropriately considered operating procedures.

Both Morrow and County Attorney Daniel Stuck provided suggested changes, with Morrow saying that he and supervisor Charles Ingram should serve on a committee to reexamine the bylaws, since they had gone into the document...
