Mathews recount to be held Dec. 27

Mathews supervisor G.C. Morrow and supervisor-elect Jackie Ingram were in Mathews Circuit Court Friday for a preliminary hearing on Morrow’s request for a recount of the vote in the Nov. 5 election.

Afterward, 9th Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Elliott Bondurant wrote a preliminary order outlining the procedure to be followed for the recount, but said that two additional judges would be appointed to approve that procedure.

Bondurant’s order requires that the parties file any motions on the matter by Monday and appear in Mathews Circuit Court at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, for the judges to consider those motions and to fix the final rules of procedure for the recount.

The judge scheduled the actual recount for 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, also in Mathews Circuit Court. Recount officials will arrive an hour earlier for training and orientation, he said in the written order.
