Mathews Christmas Parade set for Saturday

After a weekend full of holiday activities in Gloucester, this weekend’s attention will shift to Mathews where the Mathews Christmas Parade will step off at 1 p.m. Saturday from Thomas Hunter Middle School.
Other activities, including a special visit from Santa Claus and several open houses, are also scheduled for the coming weekend.
During the parade, which will continue down Church and Main streets to the Bank of America building, members of Mathews Cub Scout Pack 124 will be collecting items from spectators to help benefit Hands Across Mathews. Items needed include canned goods and other non-perishable items. To donate, have food items in grocery bags in front of you during the parade so the scouts can collect them.
Following the parade, Santa Claus will greet children at the Mathews County Visitor and Information Center from 2-5 p.m. Parents are urged to bring their own camera for photographs. Holiday books will be given to the first 50 children to arrive.
