The Girl Scouts from Troop 1280, above, took Best Walking Unit honors at Saturday’s Mathews Christmas Parade. Forty-three units participated. Other parade winners were: Sharon Holmes’ donkeys and cart (Best Animal Unit), Mathews Little League (Best Civic), MHS/THMS combined marching band (Best School Unit), Mathews Museum/May Faire truck (Best Antique Vehicle), Grover’s Automotive (Best Commercial Unit), Mathews Memorial Library (Best Parade Theme), Locust Grove United Methodist Church (Best Church) and Khedive Temple Shriners’ Mini 18-wheelers (Best Motorized Unit). Awards can be picked up at the Mathews Visitor and Information Center starting Saturday, according to parade organizer Lynda Smith Greve.
