Matheson named to scholarship board

John Matheson of Gloucester, has been named to the board of trustees of the Friends of Cliff Asbury Ltd. This is a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance beyond the scope of traditional scholarships for talented high-school-age students attending Virginia boarding schools.

The organization is named after Cliff Asbury, who was the development officer for Christchurch School before he died in an automobile accident on Sept. 13, 2001. To date, there have been 28 financial grants awarded to 18 students in six boarding schools in Virginia.

Matheson serves on the development boards of Virginia Wesleyan College and Blue Ridge School, the Ware Academy Board and the Christchurch Board. "Cliff was a great friend and I appreciate how this is honoring his name," Matheson said.
