Mark Wills to headline Fight Cancer Fest 2019

Country music recording artist Mark Wills will be the headline performer at the Relay for Life of the Middle Peninsula’s Fight Cancer Fest 2019, with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society.

The show will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Abingdon Ruritan Club festival grounds in Bena.

“This will be the first time Gloucester has seen a country star of this caliber,” said event organizer Melissa Edwards, who said she expects the show to sell out. Opening for Wills will be the locally-based musical trio The Mullins Sisters, performing harmonies of old and new country, bluegrass and Americana folk.

Wills, winner of the Academy of Country Music Awards’ Top New Male Vocalist for 1998, has recorded seven albums, including the platinum-selling “Wish You Were Here.” In 2018, he was invited by Vince Gill to become the 193rd member of the Grand Ole Opry; his induction ceremony was held earlier this year.
