Marine Science Day, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science’s annual open house, will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the school’s Gloucester Point campus.
Visitors are invited to view exhibits, take lab tours, observe a seafood cooking demonstration, attend mini-lectures and more. All activities are free and the event takes place, rain or shine.
The first 100 to attend Marine Science Day will receive a VIMS-branded reusable shopping bag when they check in.
A Marine Life Costume Contest will be held Saturday morning, with contestants checking in between 10:30 and 10:45 at the main entrance to Watermen’s Hall.
Costume judging begins at 11, with contestants parading in their marine-themed costumes around Watermen’s Hall circle (weather permitting). Immediately following, an awards ceremony will take place in McHugh Auditorium; the overall winner will receive a $50 coupon for merchandise in the VIMS Gift Shop.
