MARGUERITE B. SMITH

Marguerite B. Smith, age 95, of Achilles, died peacefully at Norfolk Sentara Hospital on Sunday, May 30, 2021, and reunited with many long-awaited family and friends in her heavenly home. Marguerite was an independent, strong-willed woman who enjoyed her life nurturing others with her nursing skills, her kindness and generosity. She loved family gatherings, picnics and her traditional Christmas night get-togethers. She was a member of Union Baptist Church and loved her church family along with the many neighbors and special friends, Jack Pitts and Billy King. Husband, Francis Robins Smith; parents, Joseph Herbert and Nellie Estes Brown; sister, Virginia B. Belvin; a brother, Joe Brown, and her feline companion, “Merry Christmas,” preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces, Irma Lee White, Scotty McCloud, Bonnie Brown Wilson; a nephew, Randy Brown, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Meadows Brown, as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Marguerite was cared for on a daily basis by her devoted, loving niece, Betty Jane Belch, and next-door nephew, William Ellis and his wife Peggy Hicks. A graveside service conducted by Pastor Richard Whiteheart will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021, at Gloucester Point Cemetery.
