Lowell Dean Hurst Sr., age 79, of Hayes, died on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. Lowell was born on Jan. 14, 1943 in Alabama to the late Curtis and Myrtle Casey Hurst. He was one of 11 siblings. Through the years he worked as a machinist making binders for books. In his free time, Lowell enjoyed freshwater fishing, especially for bass. When out in the boat Lowell was always making sure safety was put first. Lowell was preceded in death by his children, Lowell Hurst Jr., Robbie Hurst; siblings, Curtis Jewel Hurst, Obera F. Hurst, Lera Idalure Lawson, Joe W. Hurst, Herbert Hurst, Marvin Hurst and Louie Hurst. Lowell is survived by companion, Eva Tillage; sisters, Shirley Shurtleft, Betty Holmes (Earl) and Sandra Hurst. His furry friend, “Pumpkin,” also survives him. Services will be held at a later date. In memory of Lowell, contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
