Louise Owens Diggs, 89, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021. Louise was a native of Mathews where she was a star basketball player at Mathews High School. After raising her five children, she worked in the Mathews County Public School System for 21 years serving at Cobbs Creek Elementary and Thomas Hunter Middle School. She was a lifelong member of Mathews Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She loved cooking and serving many meals, especially her well-known rolls and meatloaf. Louise volunteered in her community nursing homes, delivered Meals on Wheels with her beloved husband, Edward for many years. She crocheted and donated hundreds of afghans for children in need.
She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Edward N. Diggs; her son, William E. Diggs, and her brother, James “Bud” Owens.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Mangerchine (Mike); sons, James Diggs (Mary), Richard Diggs (Lloydette), George “Andy” Diggs (Kim), and her brothers, Leon Owens and Archie Owens. She was “Grandma Lou” to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly.

Louise was a good friend and dearly loved in the Mathews community. She will be greatly missed by all… “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.” Matthew 25:23

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at 11 a.m. at H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Virginia. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Mathews Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8, Hudgins, Va. 23076, Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 610, Urbanna, Va. 23175 or to the Mathews Senior Center, P.O. Box 1431, Mathews, Va. 23109. Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
