It is with great sadness that the family of Lisa Fé Saunders of Shutesbury, Massachusetts, announces her passing away unexpectedly at home on Friday, May 13, 2022, at the age of 65. She was born on Oct. 17, 1956, in Hayes, Virginia, daughter of the late Laurence S. and Deloris L. Saunders. Growing up she was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served as the church clerk.

Lisa was a 1974 graduate of Gloucester High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science majoring in Business Administration from Old Dominion University in 1979 and went on to doctoral research in Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. She graduated with a Ph.D. in 1987 with a dissertation on “Wages, work rules and cost-efficient firms in the deregulated airline industry.”

Lisa is sadly missed by her family: son, Malcom; brothers, Mitchell Saunders (Carrie) of Cary, N.C. and Charles Slade Jr. of Hampton, Va.; sisters, Joni Saunders Shaw (Johnnie) of Omaha, Neb., Stephanie Saunders of Washington, D.C., Toni Steward (Gregory) of Hayes, Va., Marcia Wilson (Al) of Texas, and Bertina Campbell of Hampton; aunts, Mary Green of Gloucester County, Va., and Delia Saunders of Baltimore, Md.; many nieces and nephews; and her wide circle of friends and colleagues.

A celebration of her life is being planned.
