LELIA ELAINE ‘HONEY PIE’ KING

Lelia Elaine King was born on Oct. 23, 1944 in Gloucester, Virginia, to the late Lucille Brown Walker and Marcus Taylor Walker. She departed this earthly life to receive eternal rest on Sunday, June 12, 2022.

Affectionately known as “Honey Pie,” a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, A Giver of Life and Love, A Provider of Strength, Knowledge and Wisdom, A Gift From Above, Honey Pie loved to entertain and have a good time. Be careful what you ask for because she would always tell it like it is (in love of course).

She had a great sense of humor and a creative mind; she could make something out of nothing. She loved her family but what she loved most was being a mother to Corey and Troy. She instilled her traits and personality in each of them.

They made her proud to be a mother and they were proud to call her “Ma.”

Honey Pie attended T.C. Walker School and later Norfolk State University. After many years of the service (1990-2014) she retired from the Gloucester County School System. She was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Honey Pie was preceded in death by her parents, Lucille Brown Walker and Marcus Taylor Walker; her stepmother, Mary Lou Walker; her husband, Gene Arthur King.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her two sons, Corey King and Troy King; two brothers, Marcus Walker (Mildred) and Pierre (Racine) Walker; seven grandchildren, Nikka Olofson (Andrew), Tyina King, Corey King Jr., Dejanna King, Elijah Cabral, Shakira King, Nena King; eight great-grandchildren, Derek Olofson, Julian Olofson, Kaylina King, Alana King, Calvin King, Rowan Cancel, Elijah Cabral Jr., Tenneh Cabral; one aunt, Myrtle Bush; three nephews, Zackary Wilks, Terrell Walker and Tyrell Walker; one niece, Tanya Odom; one goddaughter, Anita Chappell; four best friends, Rosalee Corbin, Pauline Paige, Alice Corbett, Linwood Cook, and a host of other family and friends.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the First United Baptist Church, 6188 George Washington Memorial Hwy., Gloucester.
