LAWRENCE BERNARD JOHNSON

Lawrence Bernard Johnson of Susan, Virginia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Feb. 20, 2022.
Known for his unique, deep voice and his deep laughter, he was a storyteller. He shared many stories of family, friends, and elders from his youth. With those stories he added so much animation, you would feel as if you were there in the moment. Lawrence was a hard worker and a “Jack of All Trades.” He had a special love for cooking, gardening, and fishing. He also had a deep love for his family and friends. If he knew you, he had a nickname for you. Many people would call on him in times of despair because he would listen, encourage, not judge and, be assured, he would hold those conversations in confidence. He made a big impact on many people and this loss leaves us with an emptiness that only memories can fill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian “Bernice” and Curtis “Curt” Johnson; his wife, Jane Johnson; siblings, Theresa “Rea” Hundley, Floyd Johnson, and Travis Brownley.

Lawrence is survived by two sons, Jason Johnson and Jeremy Johnson; grandchildren, Kyndal, Nicole, Lucas, Olivia “Lizbeth,” and Sophia “Mouse”; brothers, Curtis Johnson (Linda), Dennis Johnson (Carole), and sisters, Sharon Singleton, Yvonne Ball (Jimmy), Maxine Johnson, Vera Johnson, and Tara Brownley. Lawrence also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Antioch Baptist Church, Susan, Va., on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022, at 11 a.m. with service to start at noon.

Arrangements entrusted to Forrest Brothers Funeral Home, Hudgins.
