LAURA OFFIELD-HUBBARD

Laura Offield-Hubbard, 65, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Dec. 17, 2021 surrounded by friends and family, ending her 16-month battle with cancer.

Laura fought fearlessly through her treatment. She travelled more, visited more often with loved ones, and laughed as much as possible. Though she hoped for a longer time to accomplish many more, Laura truly embraced life during her battle. Nothing slowed her down during her illness much like in life before it. She faced cancer with courage, grace and dignity. She showed her loved ones strength and bravery unimaginable. She encouraged everyone to live life to its fullest and to stop procrastinating.

Laura was a dedicated mother, a hard worker, and devoted community volunteer. She was a Lee-Jackson Elementary School PTA president, Mathews County Rescue Squad volunteer, a YMCA soccer coach, and a Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society board member. Often seen at Walmart on Thursdays in her pajamas helping dogs and cats find forever homes, Laura had her canine son, “Surely,” by her side when she passed.

She worked in customer service, childcare, managed the Mathews Yacht Club, and owned a catering business before retiring. However, nothing Laura accomplished filled her with as much pride as the pride she felt for her family. She happily told the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren with everyone. She encouraged them wholeheartedly and protected them fiercely.

Laura was the daughter of Thomas B. Moodie and Velma P. Cochran, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Beth Setzer; nephew, Tommy Setzer, and special friend, Vic Victor. She was born at Fort Lee in Prince George County, Va., on Aug. 15, 1956. She and her husband, Lloyd B. Hubbard, resided in White Stone, Va. Laura is survived by her loving husband; four children, Tara (John) Mitchell, Ryan Moore, Charles “Chuckie” (Teshena) Moore, and Laura (Chris) Collins; two bonus children, Will (Christina) Hubbard and Drew (Jamie) Gaskins; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was excited knowing that two great-grandchildren would be joining the family in the coming year.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or other local volunteer organizations.
