Kitchen fire

The Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad responded to a kitchen fire in this home on Nicole Drive at Hayes just after 7 p.m. Monday. According to AVFRS spokesperson Robert Parlett, units arrived four minutes after the call came into dispatch to find the fire rapidly advancing. However, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly, which was contained to the kitchen. The cause of the fire is under investigation and the burned appliances, at right, were removed from the home. One occupant was transported to the hospital with undisclosed injuries and a dog was also rescued from the burning home. Parlett said this was the third kitchen fire in a week the AVFRS responded to, with this being the most severe. He said more than 17 firefighters responded to the scene. ...
