Kevin Smith, 64, of Hayes is seeking a third term for an at-large seat on the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors. He is running as an independent and is opposed by Republican candidate Nick Bonniville.
“I run as an independent because it’s not about a political party or politics to me,” said Smith. “It’s about the people.”Smith holds a master’s degree in ministry and is pursuing his doctorate in theology. He has pastored Wayland Baptist Church, Mathews, for 24 years. In 2021, Smith retired as the officer in charge of security at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital after a 37-year career.
Before serving on the board of supervisors, Smith was elected to the Gloucester County School Board and served for three terms. He is still involved in the schools as he is employed as the in-school suspension coordinator at Gloucester High School.
Since being on the board, Smith has supported full funding for the Gloucester Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad and Abingdon Volunteer Fire & Rescue. He ...
