Ken Gibson, who was elected to the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors in 2021, announced this week that he will not seek a second term as the Petsworth District representative as he had previously planned due to his family’s medical concerns. He has instead endorsed Dr. Joseph Atkins “Joe” Leming, who announced his candidacy last week.
Leming previously served on the Prince George County Board of Supervisors, where he served as chairman from 2005-2007. In 2007, he worked with then-Gov. Tim Kaine to bring advanced manufacturing jobs to Prince George.
“My vision is for Gloucester County to be the absolute best place to live, learn, work and raise a family,” said Leming.
In order to accomplish this, Leming said that the board must weave together the fibers that make up the fabric of the community including law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services, education, parks and recreation, essential government services and capital needs balanced against the weight of tax levies.
As part of his goals, Leming would like to bring both his business and leadership experience to the board. He has owned and operated a small business since 1984. Leming is currently the medical director of Courthouse Family Medicine.
“During the upcoming campaign, I look forward to introducing myself to as many citizens as I can in the Petsworth District and hear their individual concerns and suggestions,” said Leming.
“I offer my endorsement of Dr. Joe Leming to fill the Petsworth seat on the Board of Supervisors because I believe he will continue to uphold the goals I have worked for over the past four years: making Gloucester the best possible place to live, work, raise a family and enjoy a quality life,” Gibson said.
In addition to Gibson’s endorsement, Leming has also been endorsed by the Gloucester County Republican Committee for the Petsworth District seat.
