“Gloucester Daffodil Festival: The Work Behind the Blooms,” a documentary chronicling the behind-the-scenes efforts of the team that puts the festival together for the public every year, premiered on the county’s social media and cable platforms on Wednesday to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the festival, which will be held Saturday and Sunday.
The 50-minute special follows Tourism, Marketing and Events Manager Hunter LeClair, Tourism and Marketing Supervisor Susan Ammons and Daffodil Festival Coordinator Deborah Wesolowski as they talk about the yearlong planning process behind this annual event.
Everything about the festival, from the vendors and event maps to the traffic detours and entertainment, must be carefully planned and reviewed. Each year, the team also tries to add new features to the festival. This year, the Daffodil Dash 5K has been revived.
Beyond the work of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, the documentary highlights the efforts of the many departments, agencies and volunteers who come together to make the festival possible. Hundreds of people are involved in bringing this event to life each year.
The documentary was produced in-house by Community Engagement & Public Information. It can be viewed on the official Facebook page for the Daffodil Festival, the Gloucester County Virginia YouTube page and Cox Cable channels 46, 47 and 48.
