KATHERINE BEATON JORDAN

Katherine Beaton Jordan, 99, of Gloucester Point, passed away peacefully in her home on Nov. 24, 2021. Katherine was born on Feb. 9, 1922 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She is survived by her son, Robert “Bobby” Jordan (Gail); daughter, Kyle Pittman (Steve); granddaughters, Beaton Healy (Matthew) and Emily Pergerson; grandson, Adam Pittman, and great-granddaughters, Reese and Jules. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Red” Jordan.

Katherine graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1939 and attended Farmville State Teachers College (later Longwood) for one year before leaving to work in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard at the start of World War II. She married Red in 1941, and they moved to Gloucester in 1943 to start their family. Katherine quickly became an active member of the community. Alongside her husband, Katherine managed several successful small businesses, including an antique shop, an insurance company, as well as Jordan Realty, Incorporated. She later served as a member of the Chesapeake Bank Board of Directors. Katherine was a longtime member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. Always civic-minded, Katherine was affiliated with the Rotary Club and served on the Gloucester County Board of Elections for several years.

Katherine enjoyed gardening, antiquing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. Katherine never left a crossword puzzle unfinished, and although she would never admit it, she was a great cook. Anyone who was lucky enough to taste her homemade potato salad or six-layer chocolate cake can attest to that! Katherine adored her grandchildren, who spent many happy weekends at her house and affectionately called her “Ninnie.” Katherine was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Katherine’s life will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, 2021, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul Song. Guests who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear a mask and will be socially distanced. Inurnment will be private. As per Katherine’s wishes, please consider a memorial donation to Bethany United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 527, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062. The family would like to thank all of the kind and loving caretakers who allowed Katherine to remain comfortably in her home for the past several years.
