Overcoming a non-traditional slow start, the Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team improved to 15-0 with a 6-0 win Monday at Warwick High School. The junior Dukes also beat Maury, 4-1, at GHS on Friday.
Gloucester held a 1-0 advantage over the formerly undefeated Raiders at the half but exploded for five second-half goals to win the mercy rule-shortened game.
Leading Gloucester scorer Hannah Hamay led her team with five goals against Warwick and Cara O’Beirne scored the sixth goal and added an assist. Meg Teagle added to her team-leading points with four assists and Alyssa O’Beirne added three assists.
The Dukes outshot the Raiders, 37-0, and earned 19 penalty corners while giving up none. Against Maury, Madison Johnson, Hamay, Teagle and A. O’Beirne all scored, C. O’Beirne had two assists and assists were provided by Tally Vaughan and Kate Neikirk. Every Gloucester player had time on the field and contributed to the win.
