July 4 fireworks show set in Mathews

The annual fireworks show in Mathews will be held at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, at Mathews High School. This year’s show is part of Revolutionary Week in Mathews, a celebration of one of the defining battles of the Revolutionary War, the Battle of Cricket Hill.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., there will be entertainment by WIGO Country 104.9, with Michele Thacker singing the national anthem. Concessions by the Piankatank Ruritan Club are slated to begin serving around 6:30, as well, and a shuttle bus will begin running at 7 p.m. from Thomas Hun-
ter Middle School to the high school. Buckley Hall Road in front of the high school will be closed from 9 o’clock until the fireworks are over.
A number of items will be raffled off before the fireworks begin, including a Yeti Hopper 20 portable cooler, a Stihl MS 180 chainsaw, a Husqvarna 128C string trimmer, a 30-inch tile-top fire pit, a bottom fishing trip, an aluminum fish cooker, and a Pamper Me basket.
