JAMES ‘JIMMY’ IRVING CREWE

Jimmy passed away on July 18, 2022. He was born on November 13, 1942 in Gloucester, Virginia. Preceded in death by his parents, Irving Edward and Jessie Clements Crewe; brothers, Edward Irving Crewe, Chester Carroll Crewe (Carolyn), Ronald Holt Crewe (Lisa), William “Catbird” Edward Crewe (Pat), and son, Lance Joyner. Survivors include his companion and the love of his life for the past 34 years, Carol Joyner, and his beloved dog, “Cookie”; sister, Mary L. Casey; his children, Dawn Maddox (Don), Sherri Hunt (Dave), Kevin Joyner, Deb Olson (Don), Jimmie McGee (Sandy), Jeff McGee (Karen), Vickie O’Donnell (Dale); three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel on July 25, 2022. Visitation held at 10:30 a.m. and service at 11:30 a.m. (casual attire). Burial followed at the Peninsula Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m. Jimmy spent his life on the water oystering and clamming. He became a Tugboat Captain and loved to point out where he had worked with the boat, in particular helping to build the HRBT. It is with deep gratitude that the family wishes to thank the staff at Hospice House of Williamsburg, especially Heidi Crocker, Director of Clinical Services, for the compassionate care that was given to Jimmy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Hospice House of Williamsburg or the American Cancer Society.
