IRENE SPIVEY BROWN

Irene Spivey Brown of Hayes, went to heaven on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021. Irene was born in Whiteville, N.C., to Ms. Ida Register. She married Charles M. Herring and had three children, Charles M. Herring Jr., Ezra Q. Herring, and Ira S. Herring. The family relocated to Virginia in 1957. While raising her children, Irene was involved with several self-employed ventures like Tupperware and Avon. She also volunteered with Woodmen of the World. As her children got older, she returned to full-time employment with Newport News Shipbuilding, Newmarket Bowling Center, and Milton’s Paint & Body Shop. She retired from Milton’s Paint & Body Shop in 2015. Irene never met a stranger. She was a very outgoing person and loved meeting new people.

For the last several years she frequented the Bay Aging Senior Center in Gloucester County and enjoyed the companionship of its members and participating in various group activities. Irene was a devout member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She also enjoyed camping, crafting, and bird-watching. Irene is survived by her son, Milton and his wife Patty; her son, Scott; grandson Ezra, and granddaughter Stephanie. She was preceded in death by her son, Quinn. A chapel service, conducted by Pastor Moonsup “Paul” Song will be held in Hogg Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021, at 11 a.m. In Irene’s memory, contributions may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O.
