The Mathews County School Board approved the creation of a new central office position last Thursday with the appointment of Emma Hundley as the division’s Chief Financial Officer, effective Oct. 1.
The school board approved the personnel action, as well as the appointment of Mathews High School teacher assistant Mandy Lutinski, by a 4-1 margin (with school board member Bobby Dobson casting the lone “nay” vote) at the end of the school board’s closed meeting, which was held in the Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School.
The creation of the new position comes following last month’s personnel actions, with school board clerk/senior administrative assistant Sharon Morgan announcing her retirement effective Jan. 1, 2026, and deputy clerk Stephanie Lowe poised to fill that position.
With more than 15 years of experience in public sector finance, Hundley brings expertise in budgeting, financial operations, and compliance to her new role where she will support educational excellence through responsible fiscal management and collaboration, a release from Mathews County Public Schools stated.
As the new Chief Financial Officer, Hundley will oversee the school division’s financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, payroll, procurement, and long-range financial planning.
Prior to joining MCPS, Hundley was Assistant Director of Finance for the City of Newport News. She has also held leadership roles in public school finance, including serving as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Finance for local school divisions. Hundley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree.
