Hit-and-run driver sought in Dutton accident

Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the driver of a white pickup truck following a hit-and-run accident in Dutton Saturday night that has left a Mathews County man in the intensive care unit at Riverside Regional Hospital.

Herbert Warren Dixon, 50, was riding on his 1994 Harley Davidson motorcycle between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m. when the accident occurred, said 1st Sgt. Caren Sterling of the Virginia State Police.

Dixon and two friends on a second motorcycle were headed east toward Mathews on Buckley Hall Road when the oncoming pickup truck made a left-hand turn in front of them onto Windsor Road, causing Dixon to hit the truck.

Impact was against the bed of the truck on the passenger’s side near the place where the bed and the cab come together, said Sterling. Dixon was thrown backward, said Sterling, and the truck left the scene without stopping. She said there was no chance the pickup truck driver didn’t know he had been hit.
