Hardware installed for public WiFi for court green

Cox Business Communications finished installing the hardware for the public WiFi for the Gloucester historic court green recently, said Scott Varner, director of the Gloucester Department of Information Technology.

 

In a Dec. 13 memorandum to County Administrator Brenda Garton, Varner said this project will provide free internet access to citizens and tourists.

 

“This system provides a strong signal on the grounds of the court green as well as inside the buildings,” Varner said.

 

“The public will now have better access to county documents during BOS (Board of Supervisors) meetings,” he said, “and tourists will have the ability to use our WiFi access to look up information on historic sites in Gloucester.”

 

He said the new system replaces and upgrades the former microwave system that was damaged by lightning last month. The hotspot name is Colonial CH.
