Mathews Family YMCA will have its grand opening and an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the new facility on Cricket Hill Road at Hudgins.

The public will be able to tour the facility, see demonstrations of such exercises as spinning, line dancing, and yoga, and sign up for memberships with no joining fee. Any current member who refers a friend will earn a free month of membership. There will also be face painting, a petting zoo, and more.

The 11,000-square-foot building has a large area for weight training and cardiovascular equipment, a dedicated room for classes such as yoga, and a fitnasium for court games, children’s programs, and exercise classes. It also has a Child Watch room with an outdoor play area.

The building is handicapped-accessible, with barrier-free showers that can accommodate wheelchairs. In addition, Sentara Medical Group has a physical therapy facility in the new building.
