Gloucester watermen find body in Mobjack Bay

A body was found in Mobjack Bay last Thursday by Gloucester waterman William West and his son Thomas.

William West said he was having an ordinary day crabbing when he spotted something orange in the water. He said he had been taught that when he’s on the water he should investigate if he sees anything orange because it could be a life ring or a life jacket. He was glad he followed his teaching, because what he had found was a man’s body.

“I know he has people who love him,” said West, “and now they can have peace of mind.”

But according to Virginia Marine Police Captain Jamie Green, the body has to be identified first. It was taken to the state medical examiner’s office, where Alvin Hopson, district administrator for the office of the chief medical examiner of Virginia, said that it could take a while before the body is identified.
