Gloucester schools earn high marks for energy conservation

Gloucester County Public Schools placed second in its division in the Virginia School Boards Association’s Go Green Challenge. The win earned the school division platinum-level Green School Division certification, which required a minimum of 125 points in the challenge. GCPS scored 160 points and was rated second among school divisions with 5,001-10,000 students.

In the challenge, school divisions received points based on their policies and procedures related to 30 "action items" spread over 12 categories. The actions could have been taken this year or any time before. GCPS has implemented several "go green" initiatives in recent years.
