Gloucester County Public Schools cancelled classes on Monday due to continued storm-driven high tides that covered roadways. School openings were delayed two hours on Tuesday but regular schedules resumed yesterday.
Students will make up the missed day by attending school this Monday, Oct. 12, which was previously scheduled as a professional day for teachers.
The school division reported no wind damage on its campuses but a few roof leaks as a result of the recent storm. “All things considered, it was all pretty minor,” said assistant superintendent John Hutchinson.
Hutchinson said there were some leaks at Botetourt and Achilles elementaries but those roofs are under warranty and were being inspected for repairs this week. There were also some leaks at Gloucester High School, which is due some roofing work, and at the newly opened Page Middle School.
Hutchinson said at Page the main problem was with some water getting into duct work, spreading and causing minor damage.
