The Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic’s eighth annual Oktoberfest was held on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the Ware River Yacht Club. Guests enjoyed traditional German food, drink and music as they gathered to celebrate the efforts of volunteers and community leaders who bring the clinic’s mission to life.
Each year, GMCC recognizes one or more local leaders for their extraordinary service with a Clinic Heroes Award. GMCC’s mission, “to address the unmet health care needs in the community,” is realized through the efforts of staff and volunteers, as well as local organizations who provide financial and regulatory support.
This year’s honorees, who were recognized at Oktoberfest, are Janet Gomez, Dr. Andrea Crawford and the Gloucester County Board of Supervisors.
Gomez was recognized for 17+ years of service to the clinic. She has filled the roles of outreach coordinator, volunteer coordinator, referrals manager, and more.
Crawford volunteers in the clinic as an orthopedic surgeon to treat and rehabilitate patients. She recently joined GMCC’s board of directors.
Chris Hutson, chair of the Supervisors Board, accepted the award on its behalf. In addition to financial support to the clinic, several county supervisors have donated their time and experience to GMCC by volunteering and serving on the board of directors.
GMCC provides comprehensive medical care to uninsured and Medicaid patients in the Gloucester-Mathews area. Services include specialty referrals, dental clinic, pharmacy and lab. The lab services offered at GMCC are available to any area resident who has LabCorp lab orders, regardless of insurance status.
