The Gloucester Brewing Company is planning to host a Pints for Parkinson’s event again this year on Saturday, April 25.
As was done last year, the kickoff for this event will be a 1-mile fun run/walk along Main Street starting at the brewery, around the Court Circle, and ending back at the brewery.
This fun run will necessitate the closure of Main Street to vehicle traffic for from just before the 11 a.m. race start time until the race is over. Main Street will be closed from the intersection of Route 17 Business and Route 14 up to and around the Court Circle. Last year, all racers were done and Main Street opened back up to traffic in less than 30 minutes, a release said.
“We saw this event bring over 200 race participants to Main Street last year, with some having never visited our street before,” GBC wrote in a message to other Main Street businesses. “And we expect an even larger crowd this year. After the run last year, we encouraged participants to walk back up the street and visit the businesses that were open after the race.
“If you don’t already know, this event is near and dear to the GBC family, as the wife (Frances) of our son (and GBC’s Head Brewer, Michael) was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease last year at only 32 years of age. Frances and Michael also have a 4-year-old daughter. With Frances’s diagnosis, the decision was made to find a way to support Parkinson’s research, which resulted in the event held in April of last year. This event surpassed all expectations by raising over $20,000 that was all donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. We hope to surpass that amount this year.”
