GHS boys’ soccer improves to 7-2

After a pair of close losses, the Gloucester High School varsity boys nailed a 3-2 soccer win over visiting Hampton on Friday to improve to 7-2.

The Dukes appeared a little overconfident going into the game with Hampton and the Crabbers took advantage to score an early goal. Midway through the first half, Brandon Thompson played a ball to John Moore who evened the score at 1-1. Hampton scored again to take a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Andrew Mortensen scored for the Dukes from just outside the box to notch the game again, 2-2. The score remained tied until the final minute when Cole Williams propelled the game winner into the top corner of the net.

The Gloucester boys fell, 2-1, to an unbeaten Bethel team at GHS last Thursday. The Bruins got the only goal in a closely played first half to take a 1-0 advantage into the break. In the second half, Mortensen’s opening back pass to Clay Van Gieson was cut off and Bethel capitalized to make it 2-0.
