GEORGE BLANTON SOLES

George Blanton Soles, 96, of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Gloucester County on Dec. 20, 1920 and was the son of the late George B. Soles and Annie Lou Purcell Soles.

He was a faithful member of Petsworth Baptist Church for over 83 years where he had served as a trustee. He retired from VDOT in 1981 after 22 years of service where he was the bridgetender on the Coleman Bridge. 

A proud U.S. veteran, he served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Pacific Theater.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Louise Bischoff, Verna Sears, and Harry P. Soles.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucy Grey Rash Soles; daughter, Mary Blanton Soles; granddaughters, Ashley Jordan Stokes and Laura Grey Stokes; sister-in-law, Jackie Soles, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family received friends at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, from 6:30-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Petsworth Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Hollandsworth and the Rev. John Pouchot. Burial was in the church cemetery.
