Gloucester-Mathews Gazette-Journal employees participated in workplace safety training last Thursday taught by members of Gloucester’s Community Emergency Response Team.
Topics covered during the four-hour session included first aid, fire safety, injuries, search and rescue, treating shock, heat exhaustion and hypothermia. Training was led by Gloucester Emergency Management Coordinator Jane Wenner, with help from CERT volunteers.
When activated and under the direction of local emergency responders, CERT teams can provide critical support by giving immediate assistance to victims, providing damage assessment information, and organizing other volunteers at a disaster site.
