All five Gloucester Public Schools students who entered their science projects in the 2013 Tidewater Science and Engineering Fair at Old Dominion University on Saturday were recognized for their work.

Gloucester High School sophomore Caitlin Cain took first place in microbiology with her project, "Can Folk Remedies Control E. coli Growth?" Cain’s project also won the first award for excellence in the senior division and will be entered in the Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair at Virginia Military Institute in April.

GHS freshman Mitch Haraburda received honorable mention in the physics category and an Armed Forces Award/Army for his project, "Impact Test on Non-Newtonian Fluids."

In the junior division, Peasley Middle School seventh grader Ashley Pierro took third place in the animal science category for her project, "The Effect of Different Colored Buckets on Goat Preference."
